October 12th 2013 - January 5th 2014

An exhibition by Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Record Service, celebrating its 100th year in 2013.

Think of the records we create - birth certificates, school reports, business papers, photographs, community newsletters...Some remain historically important but need care if they are to continue to provide information for generations to come. In 1913 Bedfordshire was the first county to establish a Records Office to bring together local records, preserve them for the future and make them available for everyone. The collections now held cover more than 800 years of Bedfordshire history.

This exhibition showcased these varied collections, from the everyday to the extraordinary, recording lives ancient and modern. Along the way it told the Record Office's own story and how it protects our documentary heritage, be it on 12th century parchment or the latest computer file.

To complement the exhibtion there were lunchtime talks and a family day.
