A Place of Wellbeing

Museum = Happy

With the support of the Harpur Trust and the Panacea Charitable Trust

The museum is developing its role as a place of wellbeing for local people. Just being in a museum increase peoples’ happiness and sense of wellbeing. We have been working with local organisations and people including the Sports Development Unit at the Council; the Bedfordshire and Luton Recovery College; mental health services; Autism Bedfordshire; Access Bedford and Tibbs Dementia Foundation to develop a programme of activity and events to enhance wellbeing.

View an incredible display of art works created by people living with dementia, recovering from strokes and their carers.

Two local groups, who have been meeting weekly at The Higgins Bedford, are showcasing their work in an exciting new exhibition. ‘Art-Activitea’, run by Tibbs Dementia Foundation has offered a variety of creative activities, as well as provided refreshments, support and good company. ‘Brushstrokes’, a group supported by The Stroke Association and the NHS, has encouraged participants to use painting and drawing to aid recovery from strokes and has highlighted the importance of supporting each other and togetherness. The artworks on display range from watercolours of local scenes to 3D and multi-media work. Each piece presents the unique individuality of the artist and their experiences with dementia and in stroke recovery.

Supported by The Harpur Trust.
