Dementia Action Day

Wednesday 23rd May 11am - 3pm

In recognition of Dementia Action Week The Higgins Bedford will become a hub of activity and information, in partnership with local organisations and services, offering a range of stimulating taster activities, talks, information stalls and well-being workshops. Join us and find out more about available services and the impact of Dementia on our communities. Come and relax in our friendly café and reminisce over items from our reminiscence boxes.


Break The Stigma Open Day

Saturday 26th May 11am - 4pm

On 26th May 2018 join us for Break The Stigma Open Day. The day will run from 11 am – 4 pm and will include open-mic live music and poetry, poetry workshops, art workshops, yoga, table-tennis and information stalls offering advice on wellbeing


May Half Term workshops start at 11, 12, and 2pm

All children to be accompanied by an adult. Activities are designed for children that are age 5 and above and are not suitable for under 3’s. 

Cost £2.70 per child, accompanying adults go free!

Places can be booked in advance. To book, please purchase a ticket at The Higgins Bedford reception desk. We are not yet able to take bookings over the phone or online. Unfilled places will be offered on a first-come, first served basis on the day.

Bawden’s Beasts - Kevin’s made lots of friends with the beasts in the Bawden gallery. Join local artist Victoria Houghton and create a clay creature inspired by Bawden’s Beasts.


Wednesday 30th May 18

Hats off to Higgins! – One of Kevin’s favourite stories about Cecil Higgins is that he had his Rolls Royce car specially adapted so that he could wear his top hat while driving! Make your very own personalised  top hat and wear it as you Explore The Higgins with Kevin.


Friday 1st June 18

Prehistoric Pencil Cases – Some of Kevin’s friends have been around for a very, very long time. Explore Settlement gallery and find out more about them, then print a pencil case with prehistoric designs.

Break The Stigma - Art display challenging prejudice and discrimination around mental health


The Higgins Bedford celebrated World Mental Health Day on October 10th with the launch of our new mindful art display, created by service users and people with a lived experience of mental health issues. The artwork was created over a series of workshops in partnership with Dr Ben Salmons; Break the Stigma Campaign lead at East London NHS foundation and Damon Poulton; local artist.


The art, and creative writing/poetry about the works are on display outside the Settlement Gallery. To see other activities at the Higgins relating to wellbeing click here.


The Bedford branch of the Young Archaeologists' Club organises Saturday Archaeology Workshops for 8 - 16 year olds. Take a look here for details of upcoming sessions.
