International Women's Day - Pearl Thomson

For International Women's Day and beyond, celebrate the life of one of our Great Bedfordians; Pearl Thomson. Born in Jamaica, Pearl arrived in Bedford in 1956 and became the town's first female teacher from the Caribbean.

In this timeline of her life, explore Pearl's story as shared by Gail, Pearl's daughter, and written by Pauline Stepney. The oral history audio recording of Pearl Thomson is shared courtesy of Mr Randolph Charles, who recorded Pearl speaking about her 'living memories' in the 1990's.
