Volunteer Roles

We're currently looking for Gallery Volunteers:

 

Description

Join a team of gallery volunteers that support the Front of House staff team and enhance the visitor experience. This role involves engaging with, and supporting, visitors as they navigate a variety of exhibitions and displays. Some volunteers may also wish to deliver tours and talks for visitors and booked groups - for which additional training will be provided.

Specific Duties

  • Act as a point of contact for visitors as they navigate the galleries and exhibitions.
  • Provide directions and information about services and events.
  • Provide information on exhibits and collections.
  • Engage with visitors and encourage use of interactive elements in galleries.
  • Ensure galleries remain well presented, tidy and clean.
  • Some volunteers may wish to assist with environmental monitoring and pest control. Curatorial staff will provide training and support for this part of the role.
  • Collect visitor feedback and assist with visitor research.

 

When & Where

We need two volunteers per shift, with two shifts per day Tuesday to Saturday. The morning shift is 11am – 2pm, and the afternoon shift is 1.30pm – 4.30pm. There is also an afternoon shift on Sundays 2 – 4.30pm. The team will be based at The Higgins Bedford, Castle Lane, Bedford, MK40 3XD.
