The #GreatBigGreenWeek is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. At The Higgins Bedford we’ll be celebrating Green Week with a whole host of free events aimed at helping you to connect with nature at the heart of Bedford. Join us for our community plant stall, garden tours, foraging walks and creative activities.
On Saturday 10th June
11am – a special presentation Queen's Park Community Organisation to The Higgins Bedford of the official Platinum Jubilee Queens Canopy project tree planting pot, which took place in Winter 2022 and tree was donated to All Saints Church in Queen's Park, alongside a display where the object will be exhibited for the community to enjoy at the museum.
11.30am – Garden tours – find out more about our amazing town centre green spaces at The Higgins Bedford, Panacea Museum and John Bunyan Museum. Booking essential
1pm – Foraging walk with Betty Wild Food – feel more connected with nature by finding out what common wild plants we can eat and use. bettywildfood.co.uk Booking Essential
2.30pm Garden tours - find out more about our amazing town centre green spaces at The Higgins Bedford, Panacea Museum and John Bunyan Museum. Booking essential.
11am – 4pm – Plant Stall – every purchase of a plant helps to support our small volunteer gardening team. Find the perfect plant for your garden at this community plant stall.
Community Herbs with Queen's Park Community Organisation – collect some beautiful herbs for your garden or kitchen from Queen's Park Community Organisation and find out more about their work. Donations welcome.
Letters to Tomorrow- Because the future of our planet isn't written yet. Write a letter to a loved one, to political leaders or to someone unknown about your fears and hopes for the future. You can share the letters on https://www.letterstotomorrow.com as part of Great Big Green Week. There will be a letter writing table and Friends of the Earth information stand in the courtyard at The Higgins Bedford on Saturday 10th June. This event is in partnership with Friends of the Earth Bedford.
Make your own Bee Hotel
