Round and Round the Garden – A Celebration of Horticulture in Art

6th April 2019 – 29th September 2019

Wixamtree Gallery – Free Entry

roundroundgardenCelebrate all things gardens and gardening in art. Explore our human fascination with them and how they have provided inspiration for artists. Pre-Raphaelite John Everett Millais saw gardens as settings for tragic love stories. Walter Sickert brought the garden inside for his still life pieces, while Joan Eardley braved the weather to paint Scottish wild flowers. Enjoy sensory installation 'The Wynding Wixam Tree' with various objects in burrows, nests and hanging from branches.

Many different ideas of gardens are explored in this exhibition using works by major artists from the internationally renowned Cecil Higgins Collection.

Working in collaboration with Christiana Payne, Professor of History of Art at Oxford Brookes University and puppet maker and storyteller, Andy Lawrence, from Theatre of Widdershins.
